Mr Shawky Mokhtar

Founder, El Shams

El Shams Dyehouse was founded by Mr Shawky Mokhtar, who has led fabric manufacturing in Egypt for more than 45 years. Under his direction, El Shams grew into a recognised name in dyeing, finishing and printing.

Today, Gergis Shawky, Owner and Commercial Manager at El Shams, contributes to the company's commercial growth, customer relationships and continued expansion, building on the experience and values established by its founder.

The mill runs on a simple framework: quality, speed and a line that's always open to the customer's own criteria — plain dyed fabric for the everyday order, and new varieties developed when a buyer needs something the standard range doesn't cover yet.

What we run

Three disciplines, one line.

Most orders move through all three stages without leaving the building — which is where the lead-time and shade-consistency come from.

Dyeing

Plain dyed fabric across cotton, viscose, polyester and blends, run on a modern and varied machinery setup matched to the order in front of it.

  • Plain dyeing to a customer-set shade
  • Cotton, viscose, polyester & blends
  • New varieties developed on request

Printing

Prep printing for textiles ahead of garment production, built around the pattern a buyer actually needs rather than only what's already on the floor.

  • Pattern & ground printing
  • Suited to garment-ready yardage
  • Sampling before bulk commitment

Finishing

Finishing that gets cloth ready to cut and sew — stable, consistent, and checked off before it leaves the mill.

  • Mechanical & chemical finishing
  • Checked against customer spec
  • Ready for ready-made garment production

How an order moves

Greige in, finished cloth out.

Six stages, one roll travelling through all of them. Every stage is logged against the order so a buyer can trace a fault back to where it happened.

01

Intake & inspection

Greige fabric is checked for weight, weave and shade consistency before it enters the line.

02

Pre-treatment

Scouring and bleaching prepare the cloth to take colour evenly across the full width.

03

Dyeing

Batch or continuous dyeing to the shade the customer has set and approved.

04

Printing

Pattern applied by rotary screen or digital pigment, where the order calls for it.

05

Finishing

Mechanical and chemical finishing for hand-feel, stability and performance.

06

QC & dispatch

Every roll is inspected, graded and packed to destination spec.

Common questions

What buyers ask first.

What does El Shams do?

El Shams is a textile mill running dyeing, prep printing, finishing and knitting. Greige cloth comes in and finished cloth goes out, and we also knit our own. The company has run continuously for 45 years and employs more than 400 staff.

Where is the factory?

10th of Ramadan, Industrial Zone B1, Pace (4) IXA4, Sharkia, Egypt — inside Egypt's largest industrial city, roughly an hour from Cairo and within reach of Port Said and Alexandria for export.

Is El Shams certified?

Yes. ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety.

Can you dye, print and finish in the same mill?

Yes. All three run on one line under one roof, through six stages: intake and inspection, pre-treatment, dyeing, printing, finishing, then QC and dispatch. Buyers can use one stage or all three.

Do you work with buyers outside Egypt?

Yes. We serve customers in Egypt, Europe and the Middle East, and orders are packed and graded to destination spec. The commercial office works in both English and Arabic.

What is your minimum order?

250 kg per colour. Below that, shade control in a jet suffers, so we would rather say so up front than take an order that will not match.

How much can the mill produce?

Dyeing runs at 40+ tons per day, rotary printing at 70,000 metres per day, and the knitting floor at 20 tons per day. On the floor: 15 dyeing machines (9 jet, 4 banana, 2 jigger), 2 rotary printing lines with a steamer and two continuous washing machines, and a finishing line of 5 stenters, 2 compactors, sanforizing, singeing, raising and shaving.

What is the lead time?

It depends on the quantity and the shade. Send the spec and we come back with a firm lead time and a price, usually within two working days.

How do I get a quote?

Send the fibre, weight, quantity and target shade. We come back with a lead time and a price, usually within two working days.
